Jo Ann (Atma) Levitt, MA, R.N, is a writer, counselor, and program director,
who has a longtime interest promoting health and well-being-from her work as
an expanded role nurse to her involvement in stress management, personal
growth, and holistic health education. She pioneered many of Kripalu's
personal growth and wellness programs, including Transformation through
Transition, Rejuvenation, and Self-Esteem, which are now standard courses
in the Kripalu curriculum and directed the popular Health for Life, which
advocated radical changes in diet, exercise, and relaxation to restore
health and balance.

JoAnn co-authored an early edition of the Kripalu Cookbook, published in
1980, and also wrote Sounds of the Sacred, Chants of Love and Prayer. In
1995, she wrote an updated version of the Kripalu Cookbook, published by
Berkshire House in Lee.  Directing two writers' courses: "Write for your
Life," and Writing from the Body, Atma counsels and does energy medicine in
the local community, offering Healing Touch and Circular Breathing as
healing modalities to her clientele. She also works as an R.N. at Canyon
